Happy new year

When I started writing this blog a few months ago, I wasn't sure if anyone would find it interesting. I certainly never expected the overwhelmingly positive feedback you've given me. Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to read, subscribe, and comment. I've been really moved by your support and suggestions. Here's hoping your 2009 is inspiring and a time of growth.

What challenges are you grappling with in the new year? What do you expect for 2009? What topics would you like to see here on Lessons Learned?

Thanks, as always, for stopping by.

  1. Thanks, Eric, for all your insight, which I continue to appreciate!

My challenge for the new year is getting the word out about our product (AwayFind), while of course improving on conversions, etc.

As for a topic I'm particularly interested in, I'd be curious about partnerships: the type of formal or informal relationships one tech co has with another in terms of either cross marketing or integrating each other's products. I see that as a great way for my product to grow, but while I've partnered with companies in my consulting business, it's not something I'm as familiar with now that I'm on the product side. I question what numbers I would need to be considered respectable and/or worth a potential partner's time. I'm also curious how to approach the whole subject when many of the potential partners aren't in the same region (I'm not in the Valley).

Anyhow, keep up the great writing and here's to a great '09!

  2. Your blog has come to be one of my favorite start-up blogs. I can't say exactly why, but it has managed to stand out from the crowd. I think it may have something to do with your tendency to focus on concrete experiences you have been through with IMVU, especially those concerning customer relations and hiring. Regardless, keep on with what you have been doing. Thanks.

  4. I'm with these guys on this one. Great, leading addition to the ecosystem.

I'd love to hear more on customer development, in particular, and on what we can do to combat the "90%" (nontechnical) causes of startup failure.
